Jay's Bio
Jay is a priest in the Episcopal Church and a Christian theologian who serves as the rector of All Saints’ Parish in Saugatuck, MI. Before moving to Saugatuck, Jay taught on the faculty at Pacific School of Religion and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California for more than twenty years. During that time he served as the Programming Director of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion at PSR and coordinated the school’s Certificate of Sexuality and Religion program. Jay also served as a member of the Steering Committee of the Gay Men’s Issues in Religion Group of the American Academy of Religion, eventually co-chairing the group for nearly ten years. He continues to serve on the editorial board of the journal Theology and Sexuality. In addition to numerous journal articles and essays, he is also the author of three books, including Peculiar Faith: Queer Theology for Christian Witness (2014); with Donald Boisvert, and is the co-editor of the two-volume anthology Queer Religion (2012). When not otherwise occupied, Jay enjoys volunteer crewing on a tall ship during the summer months and hiking with Judah, his Australian shepherd dog companion.
